Applying Paulo Freire's Principles of Liberation Education in the Context of Education in Toraja

This study explores the role of education in community development, focusing on critical thinking and individual development. Paulo Freire, a Brazilian philosopher, educator, and social activist, emphasized the importance of education in empowering individuals, developing critical thinking, and encouraging active participation. This study uses a qualitative literature study method; the researcher did not collect new data through interviews or field observations. Freire's philosophy in Toraja emphasizes dialogue, critical thinking, and community involvement in addressing social problems. Education should focus on developing critical thinking skills, empowering students to think critically, and solve social problems. Teachers should engage students in discussions on relevant topics and use accessible language. Freire's synthesis theory can be applied to the Toraja education system. The author wants to offer Paulo Freire's Liberation Education on empowering communities through education. In the Toraja context, this principle can be applied by increasing student participation, developing a curriculum relevant to local needs, and empowering students as agents of change. Thus, education can be a tool for liberating and empowering the Toraja community.
